[NEW BERN/CRAVEN COUNTY, 10/22/2024] The Eastern Carolina YMCA is thrilled to announce the appointment of Kelly Millington as its new Chief Executive Officer. A seasoned leader with 26 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, Millington is set to bring bold, transformative energy to the YMCA’s mission of strengthening communities through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

A proud 1992 graduate of the University of Kansas in Recreation Management, Millington’s passion for people and philanthropy has driven his career forward. His extensive career spans 28 years working with the American Heart Association and the YMCA. Millington worked with the YMCA in St. Louis, Southwest Illinois, and most recently, Eastern North Carolina. Known for his dedication to cultivating a culture of philanthropy, Millington has been instrumental in achieving significant growth in annual campaigns and major capital projects. Millington has also been a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) since 2012.

But it’s his deep commitment to community that truly sets him apart. A familiar face in local circles, Millington has been actively involved with the Rotary Club of New Bern, the Alzheimer’s Walk Planning Committee, and numerous other civic organizations in and around New Bern. His community-first approach has made him a trusted leader and an advocate for positive change across Eastern North Carolina.

Tom Monte, Chief Volunteer Officer and Board Chair of the Eastern Carolina YMCA, praised the appointment, stating:

“We are thrilled to have Kelly step into the role of CEO. He is exactly the leader we need right now. He’s not only a visionary but also someone who truly understands the heart of our communities. His ability to connect, inspire, and deliver tangible results makes him the perfect fit for our Y. Kelly has consistently demonstrated a passion for strengthening our community, and I am confident that under his leadership, the Eastern Carolina YMCA will continue to thrive and expand its impact.”

With this new chapter, Millington aims to expand the YMCA’s reach, deepen partnerships, and ensure that everyone, no matter their background, can thrive at the Y. “I’m honored to lead an organization that I deeply believe in and to be part of a talented and dedicated team,” Millington said. “The staff here is the heart of our mission and I feel honored to work alongside them. The Y is a place where everyone can find their potential, and together we will work hand-in-hand with our community to create new opportunities, strengthen bonds, and make a lasting impact.”

Millington’s tenure as CEO promises to elevate the YMCA’s programs, enhance member engagement, and build on the Y’s long-standing tradition of fostering connection and belonging.
