Welcome to the Y!

Our Mission is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.

Our Mission compels us to embrace, reflect and celebrate the richness of diversity within each other and the many communities we serve. In that Christian principles are caring and inclusive, we are respectful of various expressions of faith and serve families and individuals from all traditions, backgrounds and perspectives. Together, we work to ensure that everyone, has the opportunity to reach their full potential with dignity at our YMCA. As with everything we do, we are guided by our core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility —values that compel us to recognize the value of every person and to be an organization for all.

We’re committed to nurturing the potential of children through Youth Development, improving the nation’s health and well-being by promoting Healthy Living, and fostering a sense of Social Responsibility by providing opportunities to give back and support neighbors.

The Twin Rivers YMCA was founded in March of 1980 as the New Bern Craven County YMCA, INC. which developed into the Eastern Carolina Young Men’s Christian Association (Eastern Carolina YMCA) in 2017, and serves Carteret, Craven, Pamlico, and Jones Counties. This association operates for the administration of the Twin Rivers YMCA (New Bern, NC) and the YMCA Early Learning Center at Little Hands (New Bern, NC.)

Youth Development

The YMCA is committed to nurturing the potential of every child and teen. From cradle to career, the Y empowers young people to lead inspired, successful lives. After-school programs and Camps provide opportunities to learn and grow when they are not in the classroom.

When people feel better, they make their community better. At the Y, we believe health and fitness are vital components of individual well-being. That’s why we design programs to meet the needs of every individual, no matter their age or skill level. We provide fun and welcoming environments focused on building personal strength, endurance and confidence.

Social Responsibility

The Y welcomes and connects people of all generations, backgrounds and perspectives, and we’re committed to addressing issues that people face to create positive change. We work to provide kids, families and communities with the resources and opportunities they need to learn, grow and thrive. That’s why we offer a range of programs and services to meet the unique needs of each community we serve.

More Than a Gym

As a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, the Y provides resources our communities need to address the most pressing social issues: child welfare, education, health, and social connection. This includes providing nearly $300,000 in Financial Assistance each year to ensure ALL have access to Y programs and services. We work diligently to make sure every child, family and community has what they need to achieve their best.
