Fitness Center Orientations

It is highly recommended that all members participate in an Equipment Orientation. This is a FREE benefit included in your membership.

When using the fitness facility as a member or guest, please be mindful of the following guidelines as we strive to keep everyone safe and maintain a clean, accessible and healthy atmosphere.

  • Conduct & Etiquette: Please reference the Code of Conduct on our Membership page.
  • Cardio Time Limit: When people are waiting, please limit use of the cardio equipment to 30 minutes.
  • Rack Your Weights: As a courtesy, when using free weights or movable equipment, please return them to their proper place at the end of your workout, making sure to strip bars and return plates to storage racks.
  • Proper Attire: Appropriate workout attire is required. No swimsuits or clothing that may be inappropriate for a family environment is permitted in the fitness facility. Shirts must be worn at ALL times, covering the mid-section, and not displaying profanity, vulgar or offensive content. Appropriate shoes (closed-toed, athletic) must be worn while using the fitness facility.
  • Wipe Down Equipment: Members and guests must wipe down equipment using the cloths and sprays provided in each workout area.
  • Report Equipment Malfunctions & Injuries: Fitness center participants should report all equipment malfunctions, personal injuries and specific concerns immediately to the staff.
  • Age Restrictions:
    – Youth Ages 9 – 11: May use the cardio, weight-resistance room, and group exercise classes* with a parent/guardian after the completion of the “Family Fitness Orientation” with a parent or guardian. Guardians must stay with their children for the duration of their workout.
    – Youth Ages 12 – 15: May use the cardio and weight resistance equipment without guardian supervision ONLY AFTER they become “Teen Certified” before doing so. Parents are encouraged to assist their children when using equipment.
    – Teens Ages 14 – 15: Individuals ages 14 and 15 are eligible to use the Free Weight Room with the completion of a one-time safety and knowledge check course.

Teen Certification is a one-time course for kids ages 12 – 15 years old. Participants will learn the appropriate knowledge, skills and abilities to properly use the cardio equipment and the resistance machines. TEENS UNDER 16 YEARS OF AGE ARE RESTRICTED FROM USING THE FREE WEIGHT ROOM until they receive Free Weight Room Certification.

Group Teen Certifications are held from 5 pm – 6 pm the first Tuesday of each month ($15/teen) or by appointment ($20/teen).

Youth ages 9 – 11 years old may use the cardio and weight resistance equipment with successful completion of the Family Fitness Orientation with a parent or guardian. Guardians must stay with their children for the duration of their workout.

Teens aged 12 – 15 years who wish to use the cardio and weight resistance equipment without guardian supervision must become “Teen Certified” before doing so. Parents are encouraged to assist their children when using equipment.

Individuals ages 14 and 15 are eligible to use the Free Weight Room with the completion of a one-time safety and knowledge check course. This course involves 4 steps:

  1.  Read the Free Weight Room Manual 
  2.  Watch the Free Weight Room Instruction Video
  3. Take the Online Quiz (Must get an 18 or higher to continue.)
  4. Schedule a session with one of our trainers to be introduced to the weight room and receive your YMCA wristband. This training session will be 30 minutes and cover any questions, comments or concerns from the previous steps, as well as provide an overview of training in the weight room. An individual session can be purchased for $25, or the Teen Jumpstart package can be purchased for $100. The Teen Jumpstart packet includes four sessions with a personal trainer.

A Youth Waiver must be signed by the parent/legal guardian and kept on file at the Service Deck. Upon passing the exam and completing one session with a personal trainer, the youth member will be given a bracelet to wear, allowing access to all of the weight rooms.
